My undergraduate thesis traces the history of Dragon Magazine; the premier publication for TSR Inc., who developed the Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying game. The paper examines the interplay of TSR business practices and the success of the magazine through the lens of publications. I make an argument that Dragon Magazine was not just an advertisement vehicle, but was a lens into roleplaying culture and TSR business practices throughout its history.
The paper is written in and cited in Chicago writing style, the standard for historical research writing. The paper pulls nearly entirely from Dragon magazine publications, with only a couple of secondary sources to provide color and context within the story.
