Personal History

I grew up as the youngest of three siblings in Chino, CA. Ever since I was a child, I had a want to know things and seek knowledge. Thus, I had no other choice than to pursue higher education, and I did so at the newest University of California at Merced (UCM). I viewed the pursuit of knowledge to be the ultimate goal, and so took a major in History, as history is the study of all things past, both material and immaterial. I believe it is the ultimate field of study for those seeking knowledge for its own sake. As I entered university, I looked back upon my high school self and found it lacking in many areas, namely a drive to better myself beyond schooling. So I resolved to improve my life and involved myself in any way I could, using college as a pathway toward the better me I wanted. I joined a martial arts team, ran and participated in student government, took leadership roles in the schools Historical Society, seized an opportunity for research into the Occupy Wallstreet movement, joined a leadership program called the Yosemite Leadership Program, joined and helped to revitalize the UCM band, and took work opportunities with Yosemite National Park, the US Forest Service in Klamath, the UCM Academic Personnel Office, the UCM Research Accounting Office, and the Merced Courthouse Museum.

Out of college, my life found me traveling a lot. I spent some time not only exploring myself but also my goals in life. Bouncing across the state to end up in Southern California, not far from where I grew up. I tried my hand as a tradesman in a machine shop, and spent some time as an independent writer doing contracts for small-time and indie game developers. Now, a couple years out from graduation, I have found a field of work that speaks to me and my skills like I haven't found anywhere else.

In my personal time, my joys include baseball, video games, hiking, surfing, skiing/snowboarding, writing, fantasy cartography, and tabletop role-playing games. My two loftiest personal goals are to see more than 75% of the National Parks in the US, and to publish my own tabletop role-playing system. I'm not too close to either one, but I am always moving forward!
